Ample Pie presents
THE BAGS
with The Croaks
and Gymnasium
Tickets on sale Saturday, September 7 at 10am
Boston underground rockers The Bags are back to celebrate their 40th anniversary with special guests The Croaks and Gymnasium. Drawing from a catalogue of six albums, including Rock Starve, Night of the Corn People, and Sharpen Your Sticks, the band promises an evening of floor-to-ceiling sonic satisfaction. The show will also mark the official re-release of the group’s under-the-radar and long out of print second album Swamp Oaf. CDs and vinyl will be available.
Jim Janota, Crispin Wood, and Jon Hardy formed The Bags in Boston in 1985, becoming headliners in the city’s booming rock scene. The band won the WBCN Rumble, opened for Nirvana, toured the US, and released four albums before calling it quits in 1992. A decade later they reformed, playing sold out shows around Boston and releasing two more albums. One song from that era, “Cavemen Rejoice,” was featured on the original Guitar Hero game and has been streamed over a million times.
“Timeless guilty joy riding pleasure! Anyone who’s heard The Bags live or on record knows: This Band Rules. Red meat riffs, gleefully maniacal lyrics, Bonzo gonzo bass n drums, searing Hendrixian guitar solos, and last but hardly least the power of the pyramid: Power Trio Swagger!” – David Minehan, The Neighborhoods & Woolly Mammoth Sound
